Default Insane, needle in a burger

A Hawaii-based soldier asserts he got something threatening with his burger, fries and soda when he ordered a Burger King value meal.

Army Staff Sgt. Clark Bartholomew claims he was hurt by needles when he bit into a Treble Stacker on Dec. One from a Burger King found on Schofield Barracks, a sprawling Military base in central Oahu.

According to a legal action filed in U.S. District Court in Honolulu this week, Bartholomew carried the burger to his house and while eating the burger, he chewed into the needle that cut his tongue and made him bleed. He was hospitalized and put on bed rest for six days after another needle was found lodged in his small intestines.

The lawsuit recounted Bartholomew suffered "severe physical injury, including wounds to his stomach, spincter and tongue" due to Burger King's negligence. He also suffered "anxiety, fear, lack of sleep, acute distress and lost wages."

Bartholomew's Haleiwa lawyer, Paul Saccoccio, asserted Fri. that the infantryman joined the regiment after retiring from the Pentagon Police Dept in 2007. Bartholomew was outside the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

"He saw the plane hit and he was there during the complete ordeal," Saccoccio said. "He served the US. He's a humble man. He sadly is placed in a situation where he has to seek justice in the courts."

An executive at a the Kolekole Avenue franchise where Bartholomew acquired the value meal remained silent Friday, and a spokesperson for Miami-based Burger King Co. Asserted he could not immediately comment.

The Army and Air Force Exchange Service, which owns the cafe, knows the complaint and reviewing the problem, spokesperson Judd Anstey asserted. The exchange operates more than 3,000 stores, bistros and services on military installations nationwide and abroad.

The exchange is not a defendant in the lawsuit because Bartholomew is awaiting the result of his executive claim with the government, according to a communication by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, which reported on the lawsuit Friday.

Bartholomew's wife, Tanya, and young boy, Aric, are also listed as plaintiffs in the complaint. The lawsuit claimed they witnessed the "grievous injury from eating the burger containing needles."

The lawsuit notes there have been previous injuries from foreign things, including needles, in Burger King's burgers.
